As a travel agent who specializes in destination weddings I hear lots of great ideas regarding weddings.

This information comes from past wedding couples, wedding vendors such as photographers, wedding coordinators, and more.
The first and foremost important thing to keep in mind is “it is your special day!”

Try to not let your guests determine your wedding date or location. If they are not able to attend your destination wedding due to finances or health reasons let them know you will miss them. Then do your best to include them later by sharing your wedding video and photos.

Many wedding couples have a small function when they return home. This is a great way to include all the guests in your special day who were not able to attend your wedding.

The first step when planning your destination wedding is to set a date and location.
It may be a good idea to have some flexibility with this to lock in the best prices.

For example many private locations offer a discount if you do a day of event verses a nightly function. This may not be available 365 days of the year.

The next step would be to secure a wedding planner or coordinator. They will be able to save you time and money in addition to hiring with the best vendors in the business.

After you have locked in your wedding date, location and venue the next phase would be your travel planning. You will be able to lock in your airfare 330-300 days prior to departure. Because most wedding sites become available a year in advance this will be perfect timing.

Travel to Maui averages 50+ destination weddings per year for the last 11 years. During this time we have arranged travel packages from 2-120 people.

The bride and groom normally secure their travel reservations first. This is followed closely by the wedding party, including close family members. Guests tend to wait until the last minute. That is why it is a good idea to set your RSVP date 45 days or more prior to the wedding.

I have heard of wedding parties where the guests never RSVP and just showed up at the destination wedding. Or worse they did RSVP and then no showed. In either event this added extra stress at the day of wedding, not to mention the expense.

When you book your wedding with Travel to Maui we advise you of each and every guest once they have confirmed their travel plans.

It is a good idea to send out your save the date information 6-12 months in advance. This allows your guests time to request the time off, and to arrange their travel.

One cute idea I have seen when doing a destination wedding to Hawaii is to send out a Hawaiian post card with the wedding information on it.

This would be followed by a formal invitation closer to the wedding date.

Another great tip when planning your destination wedding is to set up a wedding website. Here you can list your travel agents contact information, wedding details and any other information necessary.

Once you have completed all the above information you can sit back, relax and count the days until your upcoming wedding in paradise!

When people are thinking about visiting Hawaii they start asking friends, family and coworkers the question "which island should I visit when I go to Hawaii?" I also see this question all the time at Yahoo answers, trip advisor, lonely planet, fodors, and in chat rooms.

My answer as a Maui travel agent and Hawaii destination specialist is always the same. “It depends on the traveler!

For example what are your interests? How much are you allowing for your travel budget? Are you planning your honeymoon or is this a family vacation?

There really isn’t a bad choice when deciding which island to visit in Hawaii. There just may one island that is better suited to your life style and requirements in a Hawaiian vacation.

All of the islands in Hawaii will have our wonderful “Aloha Spirit,” water sports, hiking trails, zip line tours, and snorkeling regardless of which island you pick in the state.

Are you looking for nightlife, shopping, and lots of dining options? Does your vacation social calendar need lots of entries to keep you happy? You would be the type of traveler who would enjoy the high rises in Waikiki, the city lights of Honolulu, located on the island of Oahu.

Will you be spending your honeymoon with us in Hawaii? Then you will probably want to be on a more secluded island. Or limit your stay in Oahu to 2 or 3 days prior to traveling to the second island in Hawaii.

The island of Lanai has 2 luxury properties operated by the Four Season Resort chain. This island is perfect if you idea of a honeymoon or vacation to Hawaii is to be pampered in their world class spa, and wrapped in the finest in amenities. Don’t be expecting a Costco or McDonalds during your stay as they don’t exist on the island of Lanai (or Molokai).

Want to see an active volcano? The big island of Hawaii has been “growing” since 1983. I have actually flown over the lava in a helicopter, and cruised by on a cruise ship, plus walked to the rift. By far this is one of the most spectacular things I have done in my lifetime.

When dreaming of your Hawaiian vacation do you imagine sitting on a lounge chair having someone bring you fruity tropical drinks, and relaxing watching the whales cruise by? Maui is my favorite island to see whales and so much more. That is why I call Maui home!

Kauai is known for its lush green valleys, spectacular rainbows and cascading waterfalls. In order to have rainbows and waterfalls a little rain must fall. Of the all the islands in the Hawaiian island chain, Kauai does tend to be the wettest island. The wettest months are generally December-April.

Looking for something different to do in Maui?

As a travel agent at Travel to Maui and resident of Hawaii I like to find fun and unique things to see and do here in the islands.

This weekend was no exception. I relaxed at the Spa Grande at the Grand Wailea enjoying the scented baths, jacuzzi, and waterfall showers, plus the wonderful mango scrub.

I also checked out the zip line tours swinging from tree tops on the 9 line canopy tour with Piiholo Ranch.

On Sunday I relaxed outside at the most beautiful setting you could ever imagine for a polo game.

There are many fun things to do when you are visiting the island of Maui.

Zip lining is one of the more thrilling things you can do while you are here in Hawaii!

As a Maui resident and travel agent at Travel to Maui I make it my goal to get out and experience first hand the many hotels, resorts and tours available. This weekend I tried Piiholo Ranch Treetop Canopy Tours.

This 3 hour tour is held twice daily 7 days a week. I did the 9 ziplines and 4 bridge tour. It felt like you were Tarzan and Jane swinging via the tree tops, hanging from tree houses in the beautiful "upcountry" Maui!

As a Hawaii Destination Specialist and a resident of Maui I hear all the time “Hawaii is so expensive!”This may be true when comparing the islands of Hawaii to smaller towns in the United States. But when you compare Hawaii to other world class resort areas we are actually a great bargain!

Fun things to do for free in Hawaii:
1. Hike Diamond Head Crater on the island of Oahu.
2. Learn all about the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.
3. Stop by the Koloa rum factory on the island of Kauai and have a free sample of rum (must be 21+).
4. See an active volcano on the big island and watch the lava flow into the ocean
5. Visit Iao Valley on the island of Maui
6. Take a day trip to Hana and see all the beautiful waterfalls that Maui has to offer
7. Watch the water gush out of the blow hole on Kauai’s south side of the island
8. Hike a dormant volcano at the Waimea Canyon on Kauai
9. Akaka Falls on the big island of Hawaii is a quick 10 minute walk to 2 of the prettiest waterfalls on the island.
10. Check out the monster waves at Haleiwa on the north shore of Oahu!
11. Swim at Hulopoe Bay on Lanai in front of the Four Seasons Manele Bay and see the spinner dolphins
12. Opaekaa Falls is a breath taking waterfall located on Kauai. It is an easy drive from anywhere on the island.
13. See the sunrise on Maui atop Haleakala Crater at 10,000 feet.

7. Sail on a romantic dinner cruise at sunset!
8. Whale watch and check out the Humpback whales that call Hawaii their home from December-April.

As a travel agent here in Hawaii I am often times asked by our clients "should I attend a luau?"

My answer is always yes! I think they are a "must do" when you are here in the Hawaiian Islands.

Luaus are about 3 hours long, around $100 per person and include your drinks, dinner and show.

If you have never attended a luau before I suggest a Polynesian revue. This will include the dancing from the island of Tahiti, Hawaii and the fire knife dancer from Samoa!

If a more traditional luau is your liking then a Hawaiian hula is suggested. Here on Maui one such luau would be the Old Lahaina Luau.

Most luaus are 5-7 nights a week and many sell out weeks in advance. So make sure and book your luau when you confirm your Hawaiian vacation plans.

Well we are back at home in Canada and all depressed - its hard to believe we have gone from bathing suits to parkas! The temperature today is about 30 ° F so that is quite a drop from Hawaii weather.

As the weather starts to cool in the United States and Canada many folks start thinking of a vacation or holiday in a warmer climate.

With year round weather in Hawaii averaging 75 degrees it is no wonder a Hawaiian vacation is most people’s first choice.

One of the benefits of booking your travel early is you get the best travel promotions.
It also allows you time to plan what you are going to see and do when you are in Hawaii.

As a Hawaii travel agent and resident of the island of Maui I like to promote events that may not be in any guide book or online website.

Listed here for your convenience are a few of my favorite events upcoming in Hawaii for 2011.

Starting in December the humpback whales start arriving from the cooler waters in Alaska. Whale watch tours are done on all of the islands, but I find that Maui has the calmest waters and best conditions for viewing whales.

In addition to our seasonal whale watching tours you can also enjoy a festive luau, a beautiful snorkel sail, romantic dinner cruises or just hop in your car and drive around the island checking out the local events.

This year the “Festivals of Aloha” will celebrate with parades, street parties, concerts and family activities that span the island of Maui Nui (Maui, Lanai, Molokai).

29th Annual Kapalua Wine & Food Festival returns to Maui

Hawaii’s longest-running wine and food festival returns June 24-27, 2010 at the Kapalua Resort.

This year the 4 day event is themed “Summer Soiree.” It will highlight Hawaii’s Regional Cuisine and local products, including collaboration with Maui Farm Bureau and its members.

Master Sommelier Fred Dame will bring several of the worlds most famous winemakers, and celebrated chefs, to wine tasting, and gala functions throughout the weekend.

Friday June 25th
•Cab Franc Retrospective 1:30-3pm. This wine was established in the southwest of France around the 17th century.
• Grand Tasting will be held from 6-9pm. This event will feature close to 200 wines from around the world to sample, plus food by Executive Chef John Zaner from the Ritz Carlton Maui.

Saturday June 26th

How much should you allow when considering your travel budget?

When I ask clients their travel budget their answer is always the same. “I want the best price.”
As a travel agent based here on Maui part of my job is to get you the best value for your travel package. The other portion of my job is to find out what property is going to fit your needs including your travel budget.

When figuring out your travel budget there is many things to take in consideration.

1. Length of stay
2. View type required
3. Type of accommodations
4. What size vehicle works best for you?
5. It is best not to include your tours, activities or meals into your travel package budget.
6. When giving a dollar figure for your budget do not give a per person rate.

If you are visiting Hawaii on your vacation and you plan on visiting more than one island you should allow 9-14 days.

View types range from the least expensive view (standard) to the most expensive view type (ocean front). I always tell clients to go with the best view type your budget allows. The view type will be something you will remember when you look back on your vacation years from now!

Accommodations range from “no frills” or 1-2 star properties to “luxury” hotel or condos with 4-5 star ratings.

Most travel packages are based on double occupancy in their pricing. Giving a per person rate will not be ½ the cost of a double occupancy. This holds true on cruises and most travel packages.

When considering your departure city the closest airport isn’t always the best option. Many times the smaller airports have little or no competition and their airfare reflects this. It is advisable to consult a travel specialist to help you find the best departure city to save you money and time!

Here are my 10 favorite travel tips that I have learned in my 20+ years in the travel industry.

1. Plan early when booking your trip. This will allow you to the best promotions available and will save you money as well. A good rule of thumb is 4-12 months prior to your travel dates will get you the best prices.
2. Hire a travel expert. As a Maui travel agent we are made aware of travel specials to Hawaii before they are made public. With our local contacts at the properties and insider information we have saved our clients hundreds of dollars on their travel packages to the Hawaiian Islands!
3. When packing your luggage consider what you can live without and what you can’t! With the new baggage fees checking in a second piece of luggage could end up costing you an additional $50-100 round trip.
4. If you do tend to over pack, or buy too much on your trip, then send yourself home a package! With the flat rate priority mail package you can send up to 20 pounds for as little as $10.70 to anywhere in the United States.
5. Get to the airport on time. Most airlines suggest up to 2 hours prior to flight time.
6. When traveling make sure and bring small bills to tip the porters, skycaps, and bellman. You don’t want to be searching for change when the time comes to tip.
7. Don’t leave your valuables in the trunk or under the seat of the car. Especially when renting a convertible or jeep.
8. When checking in to the hotel or resort please is patient if your room isn’t ready until check in time. Check in time is normally 3 pm or later. Check out time is generally noon. This allows the cleaning crew time to service your room.
9. When traveling during busy times please don’t expect an early check in or late check out. If you have a redeye flight home consider booking an additional night on the hotel if you want to check out later than noon.
10. Stay away from the in room minibar! Even better don’t take the key when you check in. Some hotels will actually charge you if you even move an item. I learned this one firsthand!

Looking for a spa and romance package in Hawaii?

As a so called “spa junkie” I have made it a point to check out as many spas as possible during my 20+ years as a travel agent. While I am not able to visit every spa here in Hawaii on a yearly basis, I do my best.

This year I have been concentrating on the ones here locally on Maui.
You will find most of the spas are located at deluxe or luxury hotels.
Moderate hotels generally have minimal spa services on property, done in a hotel room type setting.

Here is a list of my favorite top spas on Maui. I have included websites that take you directly to the spa services menu when possible. Some of these websites may take a few moments to load due to all of their photos.

When checking out spas I like to make a day out of it. I especially enjoy bringing a friend or loved one with me. This makes the experience extra special.

A tandem massage in your own private hale is one of the most romantic things you can do here on your honeymoon in Hawaii.

Having your destination wedding here in Hawaii? A spa day with “the girls” is a wonderful way to relax just prior to your big day!
I like to try out the spas special for the month or their signature treatment when possible.

For example at the Spa Grande at the Grand Wailea I just had a lavender scrub and massage. That was so relaxing. I love their terme prior to your treatment. It is a great way to start your day of pampering!

Hawaii has some of the finest golf courses in the world. Today I would like to focus on golf courses on the islands of Maui, Lanai, and Moloka’i.

All have countless panoramic views of the ocean and island scenery.

Kaanapali Golf Course is host to Champions Skins Game. It is located in the resort area on the west side of Maui. The 2 courses here are the Kaanapali Kai and the Royal Kaanapali Course. Built in the 1963, these courses have been home to some of the most renowned players on the PGA, Senior PGA and LPGA tours. The signature hole on the Royal course is the 5th hole. While the Kai’s more notable hole is the #11 with its picturesque view of Lanai.

You will know you have arrived in the famous Kapalua Resort by the 200’ Ironwood trees lining the drive. Since 1982 millions of television viewers have enjoyed watching professional tournaments like the PGA Tours like the Mercedes-Benz Championship.
The 18th hole is known as the favorite for its view.

Rent your clubs when once you arrive on Maui. Many airlines are charging upwards of $50.00 to take your clubs with you.

Golf carts are required when playing Maui Courses.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ACCOMMODATIONS AVAILABLE?

Condo: Condominiums are a great option for people who enjoy cooking while they are on vacation. They will offer either a kitchenette or full size kitchen depending on the size of your unit. Some properties will also have a shared BBQ on premises. All of the condos we offer will also include daily maid service.

Hotel: A hotel will offer more in the way of amenities or services than a condo. A few examples would be: high speed internet access, room service, a restaurant and/or bar on property, food & beverage service available by the pool.

Other amenities offered at select properties in the deluxe-luxury category would be: fitness center, luxury day spa, a more deluxe swimming pool and jacuzzi, a business center on property, and a concierge floor or club level. All hotels include daily maid service. Hotels do not offer a kitchenette or cooking facilities.

Home Rentals or Villas:This luxury option will be offering the finest in furnishings and location in the Hawaiian islands. They generally allow from 4-10 people depending on the property and size of the unit. Normally a week stay is the minimum requirement, in addition to cleaning and security fees.

Hawaii has a state fire law about the maximum people allowed in any condo/hotel. All properties follow this law as they can be fined if they have more than the maximum allowed in that particular unit. Everyone is included in this head count including infants.

What do the various accommodation levels mean?

Budget: Geared towards those seeking the lowest prices possible. 1-2 star rating.
Moderate: A modest property with comfortable rooms and simple amenities, 2-3 stars.
Deluxe: Accommodations that offer upgraded furnishings or amenities within a resort and/or a condo. This will be a 3-4 star rating.
Superior-Luxury: The highest level of service and amenities found within the best locations. This rates 4-5 stars.

What is the difference amongst the differet view types?
View types will vary depending on the location, but here are the most common types you will encounter:

Standard: Generally the least expensive option. This would be a very basic view, including parking lots, nearby buildings, etc.
City: This view type is offered only on Oahu (Waikiki). Not advisable for light sleepers as you will likely hear road noise.
Garden: Within a tropical setting of plants and/or flowers, usually on the ground floor.
Mountain: A glimpse of the mountains.
Partial Ocean View: The view of the water is normally from the balcony (or lanai) and there will be some type of obstruction (tree, building, across the street from the beach, etc) limiting the view.
Ocean View: An ocean view room will offer a better view than a partial ocean view, usually from a higher floor.
Oceanfront: An oceanfront room will be directly facing the water. This is also the most expensive view. It is normally $100-400 more per night than the least expensive view.
Overwater Bungalow: This option is available only in Tahiti where whole resorts are built on stilts over the water.

Are some travel days better than others?
Monday to Thursday are the least expensive days to fly. Friday-Saturday-Sunday are the heaviest travel days making lower fares harder to find. Plus the airlines also impose a weekend surcharge. It is good to be flexible, but in order to give you an accurate quote we will need exact dates of travel.

What size of car do we need?
Economy: This is a small 2 door vehicle that will hold a maximum of 2 adults & 2 children with very limited trunk space. Kia Rio or similar.
Compact: This 4 door will hold 2 adults & 2 children. Dodge Caliber or similar.
Mid Size: Four adults will fit comfortably in this 4 door vehicle. Chrysler Sebring or similar.
Full Size: Four adults and 1 child will fit in this 4 door. Dodge charger or similar.
Convertible: Two adults and two children will fit comfortably in this Chrysler Sebring or similar. It has very limited trunk space.
Jeep: Two adults and 2 small children. This Jeep wrangler has no trunk space.
SUV: 5 passengers maximum in this Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo or similar.
MiniVan: 7 passengers max, but if it is 7 adults with luggage you won't all fit.

The car agency will advise you regarding the maximum number of passengers allowed per car type. Hawaii state law will require a seatbelt for each passenger. Child seats are mandatory to a certain age/height.

If so, plan in advance, as the airlines are offering only a limited amount of seats on each flight.

When choosing peak travel dates many airlines are now charging double the amount of points!

The airlines created the frequent flyer programs 20+ years ago to reward their business travelers. Now the airlines sell miles to many credit card companies. This is one the biggest money makers for the airlines.

Short on points? Many airlines offer an option to purchase additional points by contacting them directly.

Once a “free ticket” was really a free ticket. Now there are many costs involved.

When calling Hawaiian airlines to book your frequent flyer ticket it will cost you $10.00 per booking, while American airlines & Delta will charge $20.00. Frontier, Midwest and United airlines & Continental are $25.00 per ticket. The most expensive ticket goes to US airways of $55.00 for domestic ticket or $70-95 for an international ticket. Southwest, Spirit and AirTran do not charge for phoning in to redeem your miles.

When booking a frequent flyer ticket online all airlines were waiving the booking fee with the exception of US airlines. They will be charging between $25-50 per ticket.

In addition to the booking fee there are also taxes and fees. This will vary depending on the airlines and your desired destination.

Tours and Activities in Hawaii

Visiting the Hawaiian Islands can be many things, to many people. Some folks prefer to stay in a luxury hotel and sit by the pool having some bring them “fruity drinks.”
While others the thought of sitting still all day would drive them crazy. Their idea of the perfect vacation is to fill every minute with things to do.

As your travel expert part of our job is to figure out what appeals to you.
In addition to your travel plans we here at Travel to Maui can assist you with arranging your tours and activities prior to arriving on island. Being a resident of Hawaii we have the opportunity to try out many of these options first hand, and we also know the tours that sell out weeks in advance.

One of the most activities would be a luau. Most luaus will run about 3 hours long, generally starting just prior to sunset. During this time they will serve you drinks, dinner and a show. The amount of people varies depending on the island and luau (100-1,000 people). Luaus are great for families, honeymooners, or repeat guests to the islands.

Another option would be a snorkel tour. Snorkel tours range from a couple of hours to all day. Meals, snacks, beverages and snorkel gear are included in the cost of the tour.

Helicopter flights over the Hawaiian Islands are exciting. I have personally been over the active volcano on “the big island.” Flying over the volcano was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen! I have also enjoyed the waterfalls and rainforests on the island of Maui & Kauai.

Zipline tours are very popular nowadays. I have tried this recently and it was very exciting. This is also a great tour if you have teenagers with you. It is hard for them not to smile when they are zipping down a mountain!

Dinner cruise or sunset sails are very popular with honeymooners. It is so beautiful to get out on the ocean and look back at the island. These cruises are about 2 hours in length and include drinks, food and are lots of fun.

If you are visiting the island of Oahu visiting Pearl Harbor is a must. This would be a ½ day tour, located just outside of Waikiki & Honolulu.

Our weather here in the islands is normally sunny, beautiful and in the 70’s to 80’s but we do get rain from time to time. As they say in Hawaii “without rain, there are no rainbows!”

If you are looking for something to do on a rainy day or just for a few hours the Maui Ocean Center on Maui is lots of fun. I just love the jelly fish tank that is under a black light!

Another great rainy day idea is a spa day. I just love being pampered for a few hours getting a massage or a facial! Hawaii has some of the best spas in the nation. I plan to write a blog about spas soon, so stay tuned.

Today I would like to blog about the weather in Hawaii.

I know you may laugh and say “but it is always nice in Hawaii!” In part that is true.

The state of Hawaii has two seasons, winter and summer. The main differences are the amount of rain and much less so the temperatures, especially from place to place.

The average temperature year-round is 75º F between the warmest weather in August and the coldest weather in January. The daytime temperature may vary 5 - 7º F.

Temperatures vary depending on elevation. In the summer if you go over 2,000 feet the weather is definitely cooler as temperatures drops three degrees for every 1000 feet of elevation.

It rains more on the windward side of all islands. Most of the resorts and hotel are located on the leeward side of the island. Or the sunny side of the island.

In today’s blog I wanted to address the cost of membership fees for airport club lounges.

While this luxury service used to be limited to a very select few, now it is available to everyone but for a fee. Most airlines will offer a daily pass. This ranges from $30.00-50.00 depending on the airlines. Alaskan airlines charges the least with the daily fee of $30.00, American airlines and United airlines charge the most with the fee varying depending when and how you pay. Daily passes are not available with Frontier, Hawaiian, Jet Blue, Southwest, or Sprit airlines.

If you would like to purchase an annual membership pass for the airport club prepare to pay anywhere from $199.00-525.00.Hawaiian airlines annual fee starts at $199.00, with United airlines having the most expensive fee of $525.00. Different fees apply to renewal clients

Many lounges include light snacks, & soft drinks. While the airlines websites are a little vague of what is included you may contact them directly for details, or stop by the airport lounge for the most up to date pricing and information.

How I spent my “staycation” on Maui, Hawaii!

As a travel agent here on Maui I am constantly invited to stay at the nicest properties in the state. In doing so I am able to tell my clients first hand the pros and cons of each and every property we offer. This last week I took some time out of the office to enjoy this beautiful island of Maui that I call home! During my “staycation” I made it a point to “stop and smell the flowers,” visit the tourist sites, check out some tours, and eat at some of my favorite spots.

One of the highlights of my time off was donating my time with Maui Pet Therapy-Haku Baldwin Center. On this trip we visited Kula Hospital with about 6 human volunteers and 15-20 feathered and furry volunteers. Our goal is to make someone’s day just a bit brighter with our love and laughter.

I also enjoyed a day at the beach with about 20 of my closest friends and family having a potluck. Most of the beach parks on Maui close at sunset time. So please make sure and not leave your car unattended after dark or you will be locked in for the night!

Another treat during my “staycation” was visiting the new Kapalua Spa. This 3,000 sq. foot spa opened the week before my visit. I had the nicest massage from a gentleman named Bo. I also enjoyed the cold water shower, steam room and outdoor pool looking out at Kapalua Bay! For reservations contact:

I love the jelly fish tank with black lights. It is easy to spend an hour or more checking out the sharks and fish, so please allow ample time on this visit.

Baggage Fees for Domestic flights in the United States

In today’s blog I wanted to comment on baggage fees imposed by the airlines. This is ever changing so please keep this mind when traveling.

It is always a good idea to call the airlines directly a day or two before you depart! This is a good time to reconfirm your flight times and see if the baggage fees have changed since you booked your trip. Many airlines will not honor an earlier rate quoted.

Most airlines are now charging for the 1st & 2nd bags. On your first bag expect to pay from $15.00-25.00 if it is under 50#. The second bag will be range from $25.00-35.00. The exceptions to this rule would be JetBlue & Southwest airlines. JetBlue will allow the first bag at no charge. The second bag would be $30.00. Southwest is currently not charging for the 1st or 2nd bags as long as it is within the weight and length restrictions.

Do you have a 3rd bag? Then you can plan on paying an extra $50-125 for that bag.

Is your bag over 50 pounds? As long as it is between 51-70 pounds you will be paying an additional $25.00-100 depending on the flight. If your bag is between 71-100 pounds you will be charged an extra $75-175.00.

If your checked luggage is 63-80 total inches be prepared to pay $100.00 or more with Delta, United, Spirit, US Airways or American airlines. This size luggage is not allowed on Hawaiian airlines.

This is a continuation from the blog I posted last week of the hidden airline fees.

Today I want to address the change fee policies. We all know it costs the airlines very little to make changes to your reservation once ticketed. But that doesn’t mean it cost you that amount!

Change fees vary depending on the airlines and the type of ticket you are on.

Are you traveling on an international ticket? Then expect to pay $100 on Alaska airlines (the least expensive). Or up to $250.00 on American, Continental, Delta or United airlines. This fee is per person.

If you are traveling domestically the lowest change fee is $50.00. Most airlines seem to be charging in the $100-150 price range.

Your fee to change flight to same the destination on the day of departure ranges from $0.00 on Alaskan airlines, to $150-200.00 on Hawaiian airlines.

It is customary for guests to pay their own travel costs for destination weddings, but many couples provide transportation for the wedding party, or host a special event for their guests other than the wedding itself.

It is important to take a few moments and detail what your “dream honeymoon or destination wedding travel” would entail. Are you an adventure traveler or looking for the laid back feeling of a tropical island getaway?
What about a 7-10 day cruise to the finest ports of call?

If you have a big wedding planned, try and schedule a day of relaxation before jetting off to your exotic honeymoon. This will help insure that you will arrive refreshed and ready to appreciate your “romantic holiday.”

While considering your travel plans, keep in mind the time of the year you will be traveling! For example, if you are having a summer wedding in the United States it will be winter in New Zealand and Australia.
Hawaii and Tahiti are among the top honeymoon and destination wedding locations. They also provide a wide range of resorts and activities. Some of the most popular activities or options would include; a luau, snorkel trip, a scenic helicopter flight over lush green valleys and cascading waterfalls, swimming with dolphins, a romantic dinner for two on the beach, or breakfast brought by canoe to your over the water bungalow.

When making travel arrangements with your travel specialist you will begin by working on air, room and transportation. As planning progresses further along, you can then discuss other possible reservation options such as activities, romance packages, honeymoon registry, dining reservations, “local” travel tips, etc.

The 1st annual Maui Brewers Festival was held on Saturday May 30, 2009 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC).

Maui showed off her perfect weather on Saturday. Light tradewinds, lots of sun and around 85 for most of the day.
